Ultramatic Transmission is a feature of the Yamaha Grizzlys which make them some of the easiest ATVs to ride. Featuring a full-automatic Constantly Variable Transmission type drive (CVT) gives constant power at your fingertips. The CVT tranfers the power from the engine to the gearbox via a low maintenance belt. When riding you are presented with the choice of forwards or reverse gear and then everything is handled by the throttle to control the speed. Just like in an automatic car, the Ultramatic system ensuring that the engine power is sent to the wheels as it is needed. The CVT includes a smart feature to automatically engage engine braking power to deliver excellent stopping performance when going downhill. |

The actual controls for the gearing on all of models in the Grizzly range is set up to give you the option of Forward, Neutral or Reverse gear, with the CVT doing all of the fine tuning. But the 450cc and above models have the added choice of high and low range in the forward gears. This gives you better performance when taking on rough ground or towing loads.
For the largest model (550 and 700) ATVs, Yahama have added a Park position to the gear selector instead of the Parking Brake as on smaller quads in the range.
One button on-the-move switching from 2WD to 4WD
For best performance, 2WD is practical for general use, rear wheel drive being the most efficient use of the power. But obviously, there are times when the extra grunt of 4WD is needed. The Grizzly can be switched from two to four wheel drive with a push of a button. This engages the drive to the front wheels through a differential to allow four wheel drive with uncompromising the steering.
Of course, when you are faced with a real challenge, the ability to focus all of your ATV's considerable power into a unified effort is a handy feature to have. Yamaha have built this trick into the Grizzly with a one button diff lock. Going over the most difficult of conditions this gives you unparalleled pulling power, locking the front differential may eliminate slip and deliver the maximum traction from the ATV. The diff lock on the Grizzly also causes the engine rev limiter to automatically cut in, giving you full control over the ATV. Obviously the diff lock controls are located under a safety guard so you don't accidentally engage it during normal use.
Five good reasons to get a Yamaha ATV:
Power on demand - Unparalleled ride comfort - Exceptional control - Superb braking - Ease of use
